MADISON CO., KY. – U.S. Senate candidate Amy McGrath visited Madison County on Wednesday as part of her statewide campaign tour, focusing on meeting people where they are and addressing the issues facing Kentuckians.

McGrath met with Richmond community leaders to learn how she can best serve the people of Madison County. McGrath heard concerns about rising health care costs, tariffs, infrastructure needs, good-paying jobs, and their children’s access to opportunity after they finish school.

The concerns mentioned in Madison County echo the rest of the commonwealth, says McGrath. “As I travel around the state, one thing remains clear: people aren’t looking for handouts. They’re looking for a fair shot. People are working hard, sometimes with more than one job, and are questioning how they will afford health care or put groceries on the dinner table. We have to do better for Kentucky, and I’m grateful to everyone I met here in Madison County for sharing their hopes for what that looks like with me.”

Emphasizing her campaign priorities, McGrath says she is ready to advocate for policies and investments that boost economic growth and stability and to work across the aisle to ensure affordable and accessible health care, especially in rural areas of the state.

With the recent destruction of chemical weapons previously stored at the Blue Grass Army Depot, McGrath also spoke with a local expert to learn more about the importance of prioritizing public safety in decisions involving hazardous materials, reiterating that safety failures always hit the surrounding communities first.

“Too often, decisions are made far away from the people they impact,” McGrath said. “My campaign is about listening first and making sure every Kentucky community has a voice in shaping our state’s future. I will take what I learn on days like this with me.”

McGrath is a Democratic candidate for the open Kentucky Senate seat. The primary election will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2026.
