January 13, 2026

Democratic U.S. Senate Candidate Amy McGrath in Nicholas County

NICHOLAS CO., KY. U.S. Senate candidate Amy McGrath visited Nicholas County on Tuesday as a part of her ongoing tour of the state.

McGrath stopped by the Nicholas County Courthouse to meet with local leaders. She shared her vision for Kentucky’s future and outlined her platform if elected to the open U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Mitch McConnell. From affordability and tariffs to economic development and rural healthcare gaps, McGrath is focused on the needs of everyday citizens.

“I am running because people in Kentucky are struggling, and because you can do everything right and still not be able to make ends meet. Our systems are broken.”

McGrath, making grassroots engagement a cornerstone of her campaign, says her platform focuses on lowering costs for working Kentuckians, expanding access to affordable healthcare, and ensuring fairer opportunities and representation.

“We just need people of good character and integrity in Washington, DC, right now, more than we’ve ever needed in our country’s history,” said Sharon Wilson, retired teacher and school board member.

Along with visiting the Nicholas County Courthouse, McGrath connected with the owner of The Sterling Gypsy and residents about their biggest concerns, which include political polarization, long-term sustainability, and healthcare accessibility.

“The people that are out here working and grinding, sometimes there’s not a lot for us. I feel like we get kind of pushed aside, and the government doesn’t see us,” said Breanne Young.

McGrath is running for the open Kentucky Senate seat. The primary election will be held on Tuesday, May 19th, 2026.

“We have an opportunity here with this open seat to fill it with somebody who’s going to stand up for us and stand up for Kentucky. I’m doing this because I love Kentucky and because I love our country, and I think we need better leaders,” said McGrath.
