McGrath Calls for Action on Impeachment of DHS Secretary Following Deadly Federal Misconduct

January 26, 2026

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Following a series of deadly encounters involving federal immigration enforcement and deeply troubling public statements from senior officials, retired Marine Corps pilot and U.S. Senate candidate Amy McGrath today called on the U.S. House of Representatives to move forward with impeachment proceedings against Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, citing the growing urgency for accountability within the department’s chain of command.

“The American people are watching federal agencies operate with impunity, and the leadership responsible refuses to take accountability,” McGrath said. “When civilians are killed, constitutional rights are trampled, and senior officials respond by blaming the public instead of the perpetrators, that is a failure of command, and it starts at the top. This is not immigration enforcement. It’s authoritarian overreach.”

The dangerous rhetoric coming from senior federal officials, combined with repeated deadly encounters and refusal to cooperate with independent investigators, demonstrates a systemic breakdown in leadership at the Department of Homeland Security that poses a direct threat to Americans.

“Secretary Noem is responsible for oversight of these agencies,” McGrath said. “Her failure to rein in unconstitutional conduct and failure to protect civil rights makes her unfit to serve.”

McGrath said that immigration is a bipartisan issue and noted that past administrations have enforced immigration law through established processes without using tactics that terrorized communities or led to civilian deaths.

“Both Democratic and Republican administrations have enforced immigration policies, often at levels equal to or higher than we see today,” McGrath said. “The difference is that they did not do so by unleashing unaccountable, masked agents to roam American streets, disregard due process, and violate the First, Second, Fourth, and Fourteenth Amendments.”

With impeachment articles already introduced and supported by a majority of House Democrats, McGrath urged the House to advance the existing resolution and bring the matter to a vote.

“No federal law enforcement agency should operate in secrecy, without warrants, without identification, or without respect for due process,” McGrath said. “America is not a nation that executes its own citizens and then lies about it. Congress has the power to stop this. Failure to act now puts our democracy at risk.”

Today’s call for impeachment comes after a series of public statements from McGrath demanding accountability, including calls for a halt to DHS and ICE operations pending an independent investigation, opposition to continued funding absent reforms, and repeated demands for transparency and constitutional compliance.
